Why people leave QuickBooks
The complaint is rarely that QuickBooks can't do something. It's that it can do everything, and the screens show it. A designer billing six clients a month doesn't need inventory settings, purchase orders or a payroll upsell, and every one of those is a place to click the wrong thing.
The other complaint is price. QuickBooks Online plans have gone up several times, and the features that made you sign up are often on a higher tier than the one you're on.
What Ekue does instead
Ekue uses the same words QuickBooks and your tax agent use (customer, invoice, bill, expense, category), so nothing is new to learn. What it drops is the accounting machinery on the everyday screens. You record what happened; Ekue posts the debits and credits underneath. The trial balance, general ledger and journal entries are still there under Reports for your accountant.
- Invoices that get paid. Estimates, invoices, credit memos, late fees and recurring invoices. Customers pay by card from a link, and the money goes to your own Stripe account.
- Bills and receipts. Enter a bill with its PDF, pay several at once, snap a receipt for an expense. Upload a vendor's invoice and the form fills itself in for you to check.
- The bank, matched. Import your bank's CSV or OFX file. Ekue suggests which invoice or bill each line pays, skips duplicates, and reconciles to the statement.
- The year, handed over. Schedule C by line, 1099-NEC totals and every receipt in one download.
When QuickBooks is the better choice
Stay with QuickBooks if you run payroll through it, track stock, need automatic bank feeds today, or your accountant works only in QuickBooks. Ekue leaves those out on purpose.
Moving over
Start your Ekue books at the beginning of a month or a quarter. Export your customer and vendor lists from QuickBooks, add them in Ekue, enter the invoices and bills still open, and import your bank statements from the start date. Keep QuickBooks read-only for the earlier periods until your tax agent has what they need.
